Latest Launches: New Products on the Market

Off-Centered Design

Eshu, an Australian skin care brand for men, features packaging designed to look contemporary. Most notable is a bottle with an off-centered dispenser and a slanted shoulder on one side. “The off-center neck design was to help differentiate the product on the shelf, and importantly, to ensure no product is wasted,” says John Mount, the company’s founder.

When the bottle is almost empty of product, it can be turned upside down and tilted so that it stands on its slanted shoulder. “This ensures that all remaining product makes its way down the bottle easily,” says Mount, who designed the bottle with the assistance of Eshu’s designer. The bottle was tooled and manufactured in Australia. The bottle’s cap was also the brand’s private design.

Lather’s New Look

Recently, Lather redesigned its entire packaging line. The line’s aesthetics are still clean and modern. Like the original packaging, the new packaging is color-coded to help customers easily differentiate between product categories. However, the colors on the new packaging are much more prominent. The product names are also printed in larger font, to help customers identify products at a glance.

“The category colors used to be represented in the square Lather logo, which was set against a white background,” says a company representative. “The problem was that from afar, each product looked alike and it was very hard to discern what was what. Now, the background of each product is the category color, which is more easily detectable at a glance.”

The company also added pumps, supplied by Valois of America (Congers, NY), to some bottles to make the packaging as user-friendly as possible.

Luxurious Jar

Noevir designed a luxurious jar for its new high-end Speciale cosmeceutical face cream. “We went for the feminine, luxurious look and design with the newly revamped Speciale,” says Fumi Ozaki from Noevir.

The jar is made from AS plastic and has an AS collar and an ABS cap. The base of the jar features a platform with an ABS stand designed to hold a spatula applicator. “We wanted the spatula to be included on the stand so that it would be convenient for the consumer to use—and so the spatula wouldn’t go missing,” says Ozaki.

The Speciale logo was added to the rim of the jar’s cap using gold-plate engraving.

Lotus Shape

Together with Parlux Fragrances, fashion designer Josie Natori launched her eponymous fragrance, Natori. Designed by Dale Kan of Brandonology, the deep-purple bottle was inspired by the look of a Lotus blossom’s slowly unfolding petals.

The bottle was made from shimmering violet-black glass from Heinz Glas (Linden, NJ). A small, clear window in the center of the front and back bottle walls allows customers to see the golden shade of the fragrance juice.

“Working with Mrs. Natori on the design of her fragrance packaging has been such a pleasure,” says Kathleen Galvin, vice president of marketing at Parlux. “Her artistic talents, her focus, and her appreciation for what it takes to create a package that is not only beautiful and desirable but functional and reasonably priced have made the process truly rewarding.”

Says Natori, “Creating the Natori fragrance bottle was a wonderful journey, a beautiful voyage made so special by being able to collaborate with Dale Kan. We knew from the beginning that we wanted to make the bottle dark and mysterious; however, although our brand color is black, intuitively we realized that we needed to move beyond ebony into something unexpected, unique, and alluring. That is how we came to the dark violet shade of the bottle. It is meant to be black lacquer reflecting a bowl of ripe purple plums.”

Liquid Keratin Bottles

Liquid Keratin chose Fusion Packaging (Dallas) to design and supply the packaging for its new line of hair care products. Fusion Packaging used a stock design from a domestic bottle manufacturer and extended the line with custom molds manufactured both domestically and in Fusion’s China facility.

The teardrop-shaped HDPE bottles were decorated with hot stamping and silk-screening. The dispensing closures are PP.

Baby-Care Line

Designer Ping Li of LiDesign fashioned packaging for the Earth Baby line of baby personal care products. “Earth Baby is an exclusive line of all-natural organic-based baby care products,” says Li. “The bubbles [in the graphics] represent the OleoSphere technology of extracting the nutrients of safflower oil to make it available to the baby’s skin, serving as a triple-action emulsifier, emollient, and moisturizer.”

The line’s bottles, tottles, and caps were supplied by SeaCliff Beauty Packaging and Laboratories. The labels were provided by Label Impressions Inc., while cartons were provided by Royal Paper Box Co.

Li says that she chose the unique dispenser on the Baby Bath Gel product because “its unique look gives a custom-mold feeling.” The two-piece cap features an outer cap that is translucent green to match the packages’ color theme. The inner cap is a white flip-top cap for easy dispensing.

New Lipstick Container

Bésame Cosmetics has unveiled a new brand look with its Art Deco-inspired Voluptous Lip Colour set. The line’s metal lipstick container is stock and was lacquered with a black finish. Matte gold graphics were silk-screened on. The outside of the container’s base was plated with gold and etched with the brand’s new logo.

“The new design has stronger Art Deco influences, as well as a more-elegant glamour to it,” says Gabriela Hernandez, the brand’s founder. “This design still represents our vintage sensibilities, but with more-universal appeal.”

Cosmetic Pump

Rexam (Purchase, NY) supplied its neutral Nea lotion pump for Natura’s Diversa liquid foundation. The new generation of Nea pump offers a metal-free product pathway for product compatibility, while advanced ergonomics and aesthetics add flair. The pump containers no elastomers and features a glass ball to protect against formula discoloration.
