Color Cosmetic Packaging: Mary Kay’s Recycling Initiative

The Mary Kay Compact-Recycling Drive began last June, to coincide with the launch of the company’s new refillable compact, and to further spread news about the company’s commitment to the environment. Consumers are being urged to turn in their old platinum and pink Mary Kay compacts for recycling. Mary Kay will plant a tree for each compact returned, in Montana and Idaho’s Bitterroot National Forest. The company has partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation, under the direction of the U.S. Forest Service, in order to achieve its goal of planting an entire forest.

“By recycling their previously used Mary Kay compacts, women everywhere can become part of an environmental movement,” says Rhonda Shasteen, Mary Kay’s senior vice president of global brand strategy. Customers can turn their used compacts in to their Mary Kay representative.
